Maybe you do not believe it, but the Microsoft product was launched in October 1983 (WORD 1.0). It was a hesitating start – first Word was only for MS-DOS and XENIX. The real boom was in 1989 – Word 1.0 for Windows (500$) – and in the following year – when the price drops down to approximately 200$.
The time passes and we get the well known – Word 95, 97, XP, 2003 and finally (till now) – the new restyled Word 2007.
By the way, do you know you can publish blogs from Word 2007? Just go to: Ribbon button>Publish>Blog (you need a blog account).
It will be interesting to see if concurrent product will reach this age (many of them are free…).
